Our Acupuncture, Holistic Care, and Herbal Medicine department at CENTREDMVET is led by three specialized veterinarians:
-
- Dr. Helaine Haltrecht
- Dr. Nathalie Nissaire
- Dr. Tiffany Gamelin
We offer a range of therapies including acupuncture, herbal treatments (Chinese and Western herbs), and natural supplements. Depending on the case, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) and/or laser therapy may complement the treatment plan. Nutritional counseling is also available to provide a truly holistic approach to caring for your animal’s health.
COMPLEMENTARY TREATMENTS TO TRADITIONAL MEDICINE:
Acupuncture and other specialized services offered by our veterinary acupuncture specialists are numerous. Here are some conditions where these treatments may be beneficial:
- Locomotor issues (e.g., osteoarthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia, ligament injuries)
- Neurological problems (e.g., disc herniation, epilepsy, Wobbler syndrome, paralysis)
- Cancer (e.g., osteosarcoma, lymphoma)
- End-of-life care
- Digestive issues (e.g., diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, inflammatory bowel disease)
- Urinary problems (e.g., kidney disease, interstitial cystitis, recurring urinary infections)
- Skin conditions (e.g., allergies, itching, lick granulomas)
- Autoimmune diseases
- Behavioral issues (e.g., anxiety, phobias)
- Endocrine disorders (e.g., diabetes, hypothyroidism, Cushing’s disease)
- Pain management (acute or chronic pain, whether sudden or persistent)
The holistic treatments we offer complement traditional veterinary medicine and provide an additional alternative. Don’t hesitate to inquire about these types of complementary treatments.
HERBAL MEDICINE: A NATURAL OPTION TO CARE FOR YOUR PET
Also known as phytotherapy, herbal medicine uses medicinal plants to treat our patients (dogs, cats, etc.). This holistic approach is often combined with acupuncture to create synergy. This practice is used, among others, for dermatological issues (e.g., atopy), cancer (in palliative care or as a complement to conventional medicine), and various internal medicine cases (autoimmune diseases, kidney insufficiency, IBD, etc.). The main advantage of using Western and Chinese herbs is their therapeutic efficacy with minimal possible side effects.
Complementary Treatments to Traditional Medicine:
Acupuncture and herbal medicine are indicated for treating mobility problems, including arthritis, limb weakness, neurological issues, disc herniation, etc. Chronic conditions leading to skin problems (e.g., allergies), digestive issues (e.g., colitis), cancers, autoimmune diseases, etc., can also be treated. Holistic care is used alongside traditional medicine to enhance treatment in challenging cases. Don’t hesitate to ask about these alternative treatments.
