Why consult a veterinary oncology service?

Cancer is a major cause of health problems in animals. Our oncology service is not limited to confirmed cases of cancer, but also includes :

  • Suspected tumors or neoplasia.
  • Complex cases requiring advanced diagnosis and specialized management.

Our objectives:

  1. Accurate diagnosis using modern techniques.

Diagnostics and treatment in oncology

Diagnostic procedures

Our oncologists use advanced techniques to establish an accurate diagnosis, including :

  • Cytology and biopsies: Analysis of tumors, lymph nodes and bone marrow.
  • Medical imaging tests: X-ray, ultrasound and CT scan.
  • Molecular and genetic testing: Identification of tumor-specific characteristics.

Treatment options

Each treatment plan is tailored to the type of cancer and the animal’s specific needs:

  • Chemotherapy: Use of drugs to target cancer cells.
  • Radiotherapy (Cobalt 60): Available since 2010, this is the only option east of Guelph and north of Boston.
  • Targeted therapies: Specific approach to treating certain types of tumor.
  • Immunotherapy: Reinforcing the animal’s natural defenses against cancer.
  • Palliative care: pain and symptom management to improve comfort.

Veterinary radiotherapy at CENTREDMVET

The CENTREDMVET is a pioneer in radiotherapy treatment for companion animals. This modality offers :

  • Curative treatments: Reduction or complete elimination of tumors.
  • Palliative options: Symptomatic relief for advanced cases.

Radiotherapy is often combined with other approaches, such as oncological surgery or chemotherapy, to maximize the chances of success.

Multidisciplinary collaboration

Our department works closely with :

  • Radiologists for advanced diagnostics.
  • Surgeons for complex procedures.
  • Internists and anesthesiologists to ensure comprehensive care.

This integrated approach guarantees the best possible results for our patients.
